Craig Owen Top New Zealand photographer stages his first major exhibition titled “portraits” featuring many familiar faces. Compiled mostly over the past four years, it is a collection of some of the country’s most notable models. The works in the exhibition are large in size and spirit. “It has been an inspirational personal project, It has helped me define what I do and don’t like in photography.” Owen says. They aren’t really fashion images, the photos are far darker and raw, than a classic fashion photograph and the models semi nude, the reason for this is I wanted to strip away the fashion. One of the results is that each portrait has an emotion that’s different from my commercial work. I found the whole project totally inspiring. It adds to my current work but I also hope it brings new definition to the way I want my photographs to be perceived.
